Our region’s location, transportation resources, and active collaborations played a major role in the narrative Wednesday when the St. Louis Freightway presented its annual list of transportation priority projects. The list included 27 projects topping $8B in value. (Click here for the complete list.) The presentation was made in the boardroom of Bi-State’s headquarters as part of Freight Week events.
Shayne Gill program director for Multimodal Transportation, American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials spoke on the benefits that the St. Louis Region’s location and resources bring to potential development.
Gill noted that post-COVID funding has put unprecedented resources into transportation construction. But he argued that the previous shortfall was so significant that the new funds that the additional dollars have added just allowed state DOTs to keep up with inflation. “These (funding increases) should be a baseline going forward,” he said.
