Another Freightway Priority Freight project was completed this fall. Improvements have been completed for Lenox Tower, located in Mitchell, Illinois, which included $10.1 million to modernize rail operations, improve safety and mobility of goods, people and services throughout southwestern Illinois.
Thanks to a public-private sector funding partnership that included IDOT, the Federal Railroad Administration, AMRAK, Union Pacific, BNSF Railway and Kansas City Southern, this project was completed resulting in decrease traffic congestion on local roads, resulting in fewer blocked crossings and reduced passenger service travel times. Up to 35 trains pass through this location daily. Thank you to the St. Louis Regional Freightway’s Freight Development Committee for your continued support of infrastructure.
